In-depth Review of Bissell Air220:
Pre-filter: Bissell Air220 has a pre-filter sheet at its primary stage of air filtration. It comes with the HEPA filter, and it is not washable. Pre-filter will trap the larger pollutants like hair and pet fur. You can softly vacuum the pre-filter often to increase the filtration efficiency.
Core HEPA filter: The second stage of the filtration is a HEPA filter as a core filtration for any airborne particles that size as small as 0.3 microns. The HEPA performance will ensure you a 99.97% efficiency when the dirty air passes through it, although the whole room air cleaning depends on the airflow rate and the air circulating through the filter. The HEPA filter needs to be replaced in 6 months. Although, the filter life also depends on the air quality of the room. The air purifier will notify you when the filter needs to be replaced.
Activated Carbon filter: It seems like Bissell is very concern about odor filtrations on their air purifiers. As the first generation Bissell air400 air purifier, the Bissell Air220 also uses a honeycomb styled filter filled with activated carbon pellets. This activated carbon substance will help you to reduce different types of odors like smoke odor, pet or baby odor, or from paints.
Like the HEPA filter, the activated carbon filter also has a separate filter life indicator, and it should be replaced every six months.
Coverage, CADR, and ACH: Bissell Air220 air purifier is made for small to medium rooms. The CADR for dust is 178 cubic meters per hour or 105 cfm, for smoke is 172 cubic meters per hour or 101 cfm, and for pollen is 160 cubic meters per hour or 94 cfm. Therefore, this will be perfect for a 250 square feet room where you will get 3 air exchange per hour or 150 square feet at 5 air exchange per hour, although the CADR rating is self-tested and not verified by AHAM.
Intuitive Control Knob: Bissell Air220 air purifier uses a single soft knob to control all the operations. You can easily change the fan speed or set it to automatic mode by twisting the dial. The dial is also working as a power button and filter reset key. However, it lacks some basic features like a timer.
Automatic mode and air quality display: Bissell air 220 uses a VOC sensor instead of a particle sensor, which will detect odors and VOC more effectively than dust or other particles. Thus, it will be a good selection if your primary concern is odors or VOCs removal. It has five levels of manual fan speed. In automatic mode, it adjusts the fan speed based on the sensor reading and shows the real-time air quality status on its LED color bar with three colors: blue, orange, and red for good, moderate, and poor air quality, respectively.

Automatic night mode: All the display goes off automatically in the dark based on its ambient light sensor. This is convenient when you go sleep as it turns off the display by itself.
Aesthetics: Bissell Air220 is a solid build quality, retro-styled modern air purifier that is suitable to place it anywhere in the home. It is equipped with only necessary features, and easy maintenance is perfect for a minimalistic lifestyle.
Noise Level: The noise level is 34 – 51 dBA, which looks good. But at the lower fan speed, the air cleaning efficiency will reduce. Check out our top picks of the best quiet air purifiers; some are range from 20 – 45 dB in noise level.
Warranty: The air purifier comes with a three years limited warranty from Bissell. Don’t forget to register the air purifier on the Bissell website to claim a warranty.
