In-depth Review of Bissell Air220 Air Purifier:
Here are the top features of the Bissell Air220.
3 Stage Physical Filters
Bissell Air220 air purifier comes with 3-stage physical-only filtration. Instead of a 3-in-1 composite filter, Bissell Air220 incorporates separate filters, which has some benefits.
The first layer of the defense is the fabric pre-filter. The filter sheet is attached to the HEPA filter with velcro strips. As a primary filter, it traps larger pollutants, such as pollen, pet fur, and hair. The filter is replaceable that comes with the main HEPA filter.
The second stage of the filtrations is a True HEPA filter as the main particle filter. It removes 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. These particles include ultrafine dust, smoke particles, and germs. The filter lasts up to 6 months.
The 3rd stage is an odor filter based on activated carbon. The honeycomb-shaped odor filter is filled with activated carbon pellets. These pellets adsorb household odors and VOCs. It has a decent amount of activated carbon pellets to neutralize pet odors, cooking odors, and household VOCs.
The purifier has filter reset indicators for both the HEPA and the carbon filter. Like the HEPA filter, the carbon filter also lasts up to six months.
Room Coverage & CADR
Bissell Air220 air purifier is suitable for small to medium-sized rooms. The Smoke CADR is 167 cfm, can clean a 250 square feet room five times an hour. As such you can use it in bedrooms, kitchen, or even in children’s room. The CADR rating is also certified by AHAM.
Intuitive Control Knob
Bissell Air220 air purifier uses a single soft dial knob for control. You can easily set the fan speed or change to auto mode by twisting the dial. The dial is also working as a power button and filter reset key. However, the purifier lacks some essential features, such as a timer.
Automatic Mode with Real-time Air Quality Status
Bissell Air220 has a built-in VOC sensor to detect odors and VOCs in the air. This will help you to detect odorous pollutants instead of particles. So, it will be useful if your main concern is odors or VOCs.
The purifier has five levels of manual fan speeds. In automatic mode, it adjusts the fan speed automatically based on the sensor reading. It also displays the real-time air quality status with a colored LED bar in three colors: blue, orange, and red.
Auto-activated Night Mode
Bissell Air220 has a handy auto-activated sleep mode feature. It activates based on the ambient lights in the room. The display lights turn off during sleep mode. This is convenient for using it in bedrooms during nighttime.

It cleans a room up to 800 sq. ft. in one hour (1 air change/hr) or 400 sq. ft. in 30 minutes (2 air change/hr) or 250 sq. ft. in 20 minutes (3 air change/hr). Based on the air exchange rate, you can use it in different size rooms.
