An effective air purifier can cut back on indoor pollutants such as pollen, dust, dander, and smoke. Most people don’t know this, but when too little outdoor air enters a home, pollutants’ concentration increases indoors. This poses comfort and health problems.
In fact, a high concentration of pollutants indoors can cause asthma and respiratory issues.
There are many types and sizes of air purifiers on the market. Some air purifiers are effective at particle removal, while others are not. The best air purifier is designed for eliminating both particulates and odorous pollutants. The new Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto is the one that can do both.
Recommended for medium-sized rooms, it’s energy-efficient.

In-depth Review of Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto Air Purifier:
Blueair is a prominent brand in indoor air purifying solutions. Its Blue Pure series purifiers appeal to people who care about their health and their indoor environment’s comfort. Today, people are mindful of the indoor air quality, and the best way to provide an extra layer of protection is to invest in the Blueair Blue Pure 311.
Hybrid Mechanical and Electrostatic Filtration System
The Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto has a 3 stage mechanical filtration system that includes a pre-filter, particle, and carbon filter. The first line of defense is the fabric pre-filter. It traps large particles such as dust, hair, lint, and pet fur. Besides catching large particles, it extends the life of the primary filter.
Next is the combined Particle and Carbon filter. Made from coconut shell, the activated carbon filter neutralizes VOCs, smoke, and odors from cooking and pets. The main particle filter removes airborne pollutants such as pet dander, pollen, ultra-fine dust, and mold spores.
But the secret behind its superior performance is the HEPASilent technology. Traditional HEPA filters are dense, and purifiers push air through the media to trap small, medium, and large-sized particles.
When doing this, traditional air purifiers consume more energy due to high pressure drop. HEPASilent technology uses a low-dense fibrous filter, which is boosted with electrostatic precipitator filtration or ESP.
This combined mechanical and electronic filtration system removes 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.1 microns, including ultrafine dust. The unit consumes less energy too. When the filter traps germs, a high airflow rate and electrical charging prevent bacterial growth in the air purifier.
The manufacturer recommends changing the filters after 6 months if using the air purifier 24 hours a day. Cleaning the pre-filter is easy. Just toss it in your washing machine, and you’re good to go.
Performance and Noise
The Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto has a CADR of 250 cfm (pollen), 244 cfm (dust), and 250 cfm (smoke). Perfect for medium-sized rooms, it can clean up to 375 square feet with five air changes in an hour.
The less-dense filters require less air pressure to push air through. As such, the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto can distribute more clean air in the room at lower fan speeds. While doing so, it makes less noise.
In fact, the unit’s sound level is 23 dB, which is lower than a whisper or rustling leaves at 30dB. This means you can run the air purifier all night without interrupting your sleep quality.
At the highest fan speed (Boost Mode), the unit’s sound level is 53dB, and this is slightly louder. Besides whisper-quiet operation, the unit consumes less energy, especially at the lowest fan speed.
The energy consumption rating of the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto is 3 to 35W. If you run the air purifier at the lowest fan speed for 12 hours a day, it’ll consume 0.04 kWh/day and 1.2 kWh/month.
If you run the air purifier at the highest fan speed for 12 hours a day, it’ll consume 0.42 kWh/day and 12.6 kWh/month.
Design
The unit comes with five fabric pre-filter color options. Made from non-woven gradient polypropylene fibers, the Scandinavian nature inspires the colors. You can change the pre-filters to match the decor of your living space. A hidden compartment in the pre-filter hides the power cord.
The Blue Pure 311 Auto Air Purifier has the following dimensions: 20.5 by 10.2 by 10.2 inches. It has a cylindrical design with a 360-degree air intake. The bottom-to-top airflow concept allows the unit to filter and distribute more clean air in the room.
At 6.8 pounds, the unit is much lighter. For that, you can place the unit anywhere in a room or even bring it along. Thanks to the 360-degree intake, you don’t have to follow the strict rules for placement.
For example, some units require you to position them at least 50 cm from a wall or another appliance. With the Blue Pure 311 Auto Air Purifier, you can place it anywhere in the room without compromising its performance.
It has a one-touch auto mode. At the touch of a button, you can turn it on or off. Besides that, the one-touch auto mode allows you to maintain a healthy and comfortable environment. The unit auto-adjusts fan speed based on real-time data collected by the integrated particle sensor.

Your review is spot on. I got the 311 Auto six weeks ago for our bedroom because my wife, who has COPD, was coughing a lot at night due to sinus drainage. We clean our house regularly and change the furnace/AC filter monthly, but something was in the air that triggered allergy-like symptoms. After a few days of purifying, she stopped coughing in bed. She also coughed after an extended time in the living room, which is frequent since we are retired, and she has rheumatoid arthritis, so I got the BlueAir 7470i. Now she no longer has those coughing spells. Both air purifiers run 24/7 on auto mode, and we don’t hear them.
