In-depth Review of Medify MA-50:
Powerful Filtration System
The Medify MA-50 Air Purifier comes with a 3-in-1 powerful filtration system plus an optional UV sterilizer. The filters are on all 4 sides of the air purifier, and the first line of protection is the pre-filter. This filter traps large particles such as lints, dust, pet dander, and others.
By trapping the large particles, the pre-filter extends the life of the H13 HEPA filter. For best performance, vacuum the pre-filter once a month.
The next stage of the filtration system is the H13 HEPA filter. This filter is more efficient than the traditional HEPA filter. It removes most airborne pollutants, including ultrafine dust, smoke particles, bacteria, and even viruses.
Basically, it traps 99.9% of airborne pollutants as small as 0.1 microns. By trapping pollutants you can’t see, the H13 HEPA filter reduces asthma and allergies’ common triggers.
The last stage of the filtration system is the carbon filter. Composed of carbon pellets, it adsorbs VOCs, smoke, gases, and odors from households and pets. VOCs originate from the burning of fuels such as wood, kerosene, and gas. They also come from personal care products such as hair spray, cleaning agents, and perfumes.
Exposure to VOCs for a longer period has adverse health effects.
The composite filter has a lifespan of 3,000 hours or roughly 6 months for daily 16 hours of usage. To know when to replace the filters, check the filter replacement indicator. If it flashes red, it’s time to replace the filters.
Buy original filters from the manufacturer and follow the instructions in the owner’s manual to replace them. By replacing the filters with original ones, you enhance the air purifier’s performance. This ensures the removal of airborne pollutants and delivery of clean air in your home.
It comes with a UV light designed to destroy mold and germs in the filter. However, it seems like the UV light is permanent and LED-type, which is less effective than mercury-based UV lamps.
Coverage Area and Noise
The Medify MA-50 Air Purifier has a CADR of 294 cfm (500 m³/h) and 4 fan speeds. The purifier can clean an area of 550 square feet four times per hour at high speed in a closed room. Check out more room coverage recommendations below.
By running the air purifier at high speed, you can refresh the stale air and reduce health issues caused by airborne pollutants. For example, dust, pollen, and bacteria can trigger respiratory and other health issues. Running the Medify MA-50 Air Purifier at high speed keeps you and your family healthy by trapping airborne pollutants.
The Medify MA-50 Air Purifier is ideal for medium-sized and large rooms such as your living room, kitchen, and bedroom. When you run the purifier at the lowest fan speed, the purifier’s sound level is 35 dB. The sound level of a whisper is 30 dB, and a humming refrigerator is 40 dB.
At 35 dB, the purifier will not interrupt your sleep as it runs all night quietly. It will trap pollutants and refresh the stale air in your bedroom all night. This ensures a comfortable sleeping environment for you and your family.
The maximum sound level of the purifier is 56 dB. This is slightly higher than the sound level of a normal conversation (50 dB) and lower than a burst of laughter (60 dB). If you want to run the air purifier at the maximum fan speed, do so during the day. The running purifier will not distract you or be a nuisance.
Stylish Design and Easy to Use Controls
The Medify MA-50 Air Purifier weighs 7 pounds and has the following dimensions – 21 by 9.5 inches. As a perfect blend of modern design and technology, it can fit easily in any space.
It comes fully assembled with the filter set already installed. The purifier has 4-way air intakes and an upward air outlet.
Made of premium ABS plastic, the purifier’s body has a glossy finish that gives the purifier a premium look and adds to its appeal. At the base, you have rubber feet. Since the Medify MA-50 Air Purifier is a floor model, the rubber feet prevent slipping. They also provide stability to the purifier preventing it from getting knocked over by children or pets.
At the top of the unit, you have a touch control panel with the following buttons – power, timer, fan speed, dimmer, child lock, and UV.
The timer buttons cycle through the following settings – 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, and off. This button comes in handy when you’re away from home or at night. If you set the timer to 2 or 4 hours, the purifier will run continuously for this duration. Once the time elapses, the purifier will power off.
Children are curious, and due to this, they always end up in mischief. For example, they can accidentally change the timer or fan speed setting. To avoid this, press the child lock button and hold for 3 seconds. It locks all functional buttons. Repeat to unlock. By locking all functional buttons, you prevent the change of settings.
