Levoit Core 300S is a badass smart air purifier for ~ 200 square feet of rooms. It is intelligent enough to set its fan speed automatically and silent enough to use in bedrooms.
After running 400 hours in four weeks (90% filter life remaining), here are my thoughts on this little-powerful-machine.
Let’s dive right in.

In-depth Review of the Levoit Core 300S Air Purifier:
Here are my thoughts on my hands-on experience with the Levoit Core 300S Air Purifier.
Aesthetics
The Levoit Core 300S comes in a clever design with a minimalistic approach. It stands on the floor firmly on its four non-slip rubber pads at the bottom. All components are fitted within the tightly packed 8.7 by 14.2 inches cylindrical shell. It weighs about 6 pounds.
Due to its compact design, it has no carrying handles. Its matte finish plastic body seems a bit slippery to me. Be a little careful when picking it up.
The 360-degree air intake and the top air outlet with the vortex airflow design are super effective for air circulation inside the room. And it works!
You cannot place it beside the wall as it comes with a 360-degree air inlet. You have to maintain at least 15 inches of clearance on all sides.
Due to its lightweight, it can easily tip over by accident. My 18-month-old nephew had already pushed it several times and it almost fell off. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
For the best results, place it on a tool or bedside table in the middle of the room.
Touch Control Panel
The low latency touch control buttons respond super-fast. I love the feature that it doesn’t make any beep sounds on setting changes or during power on/off.
The onboard control panel features a power switch, auto shut off timer (1-12 hours), filter reset, sleep mode (lowest fan speed), manual mode (low, medium, and high), auto mode, display off, and display lock.
Smart App Control via Wi-Fi
The Levoit Core 300S is a Wi-Fi enabled air purifier. To connect it to your 2.4GHz router, you have to download the VeSync App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
The VeSync app automatically discovers the air purifier via Bluetooth. The Add Device process is super smooth and takes less than a minute to pair.
After adding the device to the VeSync app, it will update your air purifier to the latest firmware version.
VeSync App Features
The VeSync App has a simple user interface with a faster response. After launching the app, it takes 2-3 seconds to load the air purifier.
You will find all of the on-board controls here plus some bonus features:
- The app will show you the real-time PM2.5 particle counts in ug/m3.
- Historical indoor PM2.5 level with fan speed.
- Remaining filter life in percentage.
- Cumulative running in hours.
- Create schedules and precise auto-shutoff timers.
- Set triggers (pollution hike, your location, or others) to ON/OFF the air purifier automatically.
You can easily link the VeSync App with Amazon Alexa and Google Home with a couple of taps. After adding the device, you can take advantage of all the voice commands.
I normally use Alexa to turn off the display lights from the bed at night.
Laser Particle Sensor and Auto Mode
I have been using the Levoit Core 300S in automatic mode for four weeks, and it rarely runs at medium or high fan speeds. Thanks to the built-in laser particle sensor to make this happen.
It is hard to set the fan speed efficiently without knowing the indoor particles level.
I think this should be a must-have function of every air purifier like every air conditioner comes with a thermostat.
Also, the sensor works pretty accurately. I cross-checked it with Amazon Air Quality Monitor on different particle levels.
To consistently get accurate readings, vacuum/clean the grill of the AirSight Plus sensor every three months.
Custom Auto Mode
The Levoit Core 300S sensors examine the indoor air and label it blue, Green, Orange, and Red. When set on auto mode, the fan speed matches the pollution level.
Here is the Air Quality Indicator Chart of Levoit Core 300S:
Indicator Color | Air Quality | Auto Mode Fan Speed |
---|---|---|
Blue | Very Good | Sleep Mode |
Green | Good | Low |
Orange | Moderate | Medium |
Red | Bad | High |
You can customize the auto mode from the VeSync app: Quiet Auto Mode and Efficient Auto Mode. The Quiet Auto Mode never uses the highest fan speed, suitable for kids’ rooms, libraries, or quiet rooms.
At Efficient Auto Mode, you can set your room size from 100 to 400 square feet. In this mode, the air purifier will use the highest fan speed mode for 5 to 10 minutes and then follow the air quality sensor data.
I use the Default Auto Mode since the Efficient Auto Mode always starts with the highest fan speed, which continues for 10 minutes (in my 200 sq ft room) regardless of the indoor air quality. I think this mode is unnecessary for my circumstances.
Effective Air Filter
The Levoit Core 300S comes with a composite 3-in-1 filter: pre, True HEPA, and activated carbon. The first layer is a pre-filter net that captures larger dust, lint, and pet furs (~ 10 microns).
The center stage is the True HEPA filter, which can remove 99.97% of 0.3 micron-sized particles. On the inner side of the filter, there is a thin layer of scattered activated carbon pellets to adsorb odors.
I have tested the filter efficiency with two different indoor air quality monitors and got the following results:
- Particle size 0.3 microns (dominant pollutant size) : Captured 99.95%
- Particle size 2.5 microns (PM2.5): Captured 100%
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Can’t remove at all
However, you can purchase three types of replacement filters with extra activated carbon for your circumstances.

Low Noise
The noise level of the Levoit Core 300S is super quiet at Sleep Mode and Low fan speeds. You will only hear some noise at medium and high fan speed.
In my four-week test, over 95% of the time, it runs at the lowest fan speed with Auto mode selection. If the air quality goes bad (enters the particles from outside), it only takes 5-7 minutes (in my ~200 sq ft room) to get it to a good score (Green and Blue).
So, if you run it in auto mode, you will barely hear the fan noise.
Here is our noise test result from close proximity to the air purifier.
